Our History
In 1993, several pharmaceutical companies recognized two market trends in the hospital market segment in Canada. Firstly, hospitals were largely organized into buying groups but were now seeking further economies through changes to the distribution component of their costs. They began to seek a consolidated, single source solution for distribution of their suppliers' products. Secondly, the companies recognized the possibility of loss of customer access through the positioning of third party distributors between them and their traditional customer, the hospital pharmacist and the physician. The solution was to provide a source of consolidated supply, owned and operated by the companies themselves.
CPDN is now in its fourteenth year of operation and is highly valued by CPDN Member Companies and their customers.
Characteristics of the Program
CPDN facilitates the provision of logistics services to its member companies, which includes leading pharmaceutical companies in the Canadian hospital market. Inventories maintained in the CPDN Program logistics provider's warehouses are owned and controlled by the individual member companies. The CPDN Program provides for consolidated ordering for its members through an integrated catalogue hosted and managed on the CPDN Program online, web based, ordering system. Product is then consolidated into a single shipment and a single invoice. Customers make a single payment and can make their product returns to the CPDN Program logistics provider's warehouse. The CPDN Program facilitates the processing of customer payments to the individual companies and administers each company's return policy. Each member company pays an annual membership fee and then pays its share of the monthly distribution costs.
